  • Born May 1, 1918
  • Graduated Alexander High School and completed Lincoln County Teacher Training
  • Worked as alterations seamstress at Gulley’s Men’s Store
  • Moved to Wheaton, Illinois where she assisted her husband in his building and construction contractor work
  • Received interior/exterior design training and began to assist with blueprints and the entire building process
  • First African Americans in Brookhaven to build a housing development
  • Developed Peco Village (near Mullins School) with their home as first house in the development
  • Member of St. James Church
  • Member of AARP and served as a poll worker
  • Married to James Calvin Lewis, 1 son
  • Died May 1, 2013
