Love watching movies? Love talking about movies with other people? Join us for the first meeting of our new Film Club!
Each month, the Film Club will view and discuss a chosen movie or theme. For our first meeting, in conjunction with Together We Read, Lincoln County, we will be discussing movies with the theme of community.
Everyone is invited to watch movies of their choice on this theme during the month of March and then attend the Film Club discussion on March 30th.
Here are a few recommendations to get you started!
Jerry and Marge Go Large (2022)
The remarkable true story of how retiree Jerry Selbee discovers a mathematical loophole in the Massachusetts lottery and, with the help of his wife, Marge, wins $27 million dollars and uses the money to revive their small Michigan town. Rated PG-13 some language and suggestive references.
Minari (2020)
A Korean American family moves to an Arkansas farm in search of their own American Dream. Amidst the challenges of this new life in the strange and rugged Ozarks, they find the undeniable resilience of family and what really makes a home. Rated PG-13 for some thematic elements and a rude gesture.
The Majestic (2001)
In 1951, a blacklisted Hollywood screenwriter loses his memory in a car accident and is mistaken for a beloved local war hero in a small town. As he helps revive the community's shuttered movie theater, he finds love and a new life but must confront his past when his memory returns. Rated PG for language and mild thematic elements.
The Quiet Man (1952)
A strapping Irish American boxer comes to Ireland to forget a tragic event in his prizefighting past and falls in love with the feisty Colleen, the sister of a "big, bellowing bully" who hates him for purchasing property he himself had his eye on. Rated TV-PG.
